About Samuli Riihonen

Maker of systems, tweaker of details with 25 years of experience in professional software development with more languages and technologies than would make any sense to list here. Alongside work related assignments I have always been tinkering with all kinds of personal projects ranging from a 3D game engine built from absolute scratch (Currently porting from OpenGL to Vulkan and JS to TS-scripting) to helping the local sports club by building all kinds of services ranging from a LED-billboard management system (frontend and backend), online-payment integration and Apple- and Google-wallet installable mobile season-passes. All this experience has made me a kind of a jack of all trades, but still a master of many. An invaluable skill related to a long history is having to repeatedly learn new languages, libraries and environments and this is also the reason that has kept the fire burning all this time: I simply love to build software and the advances in languages, and especially tooling, has only made this more enjoyable as time has gone by. My current favourites in technologies include TypeScript, Kotlin, React, Node.js, AWS, GCP, but as mentioned, there are loads more where these came from. I also consider myself a pretty good communicator and a team player. I am a native Finnish speaker and fluent in English. I can hold a conversation in Swedish and probably German as well. In addition I have been studying some Spanish and Ukrainian for some time now, since in addition to programming languages, I also find these natural ones quite intriguing. Cheers, Samuli
