About Samy Norris

I was a middle school science teacher for four years in Illinois and a high school science teacher for 8 years in Kentucky. I love teaching, but I was sick of the politics and lack of accountability in the administration. During my last few years of teaching, I started my second Master's degree in Biology through Miami University. Through this program, I learned about the importance of place and the information traditional ecological knowledge can provide to conservation efforts. I focused my efforts on incorporating that information and mindset into mainstream education and conservation efforts. My current role at the Archaeological Research Institute is to take the research being done by the archaeology and land stewardship teams and make it accessible to everyone. Whether you are 5 years old or 105 years old, you should have access to and be able to understand the science happening in the community around you. I also want to work towards incorporating the voices of the descendant communities into the stories we are building about the history and future of the Ohio River Valley. Skilled in Classroom Management, Google Drive, Curriculum Development, Microsoft Office, and Tutoring. Strong education professional with a Master of Arts focused in Secondary Education and Teaching from Roosevelt University.
