About Sandeep Badrinath

As a Principal Research Scientist at Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), I work on various exciting research problems aimed at understanding driver behavior and improving road safety through advanced mathematical modeling and machine learning techniques. Before joining CMT, I received a PhD from MIT and a dual degree (B.Tech.+ M.Tech.) from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM). My PhD research was on system modeling, design of control and optimization algorithms, with applications to transportation systems. In particular, my PhD dissertation focused on developing data-driven models and control algorithms for queuing networks, and these techniques were applied to reduce traffic congestion at airports. Additionally, I have worked on several other research problems in aviation such as estimating the environmental impacts of airport operations, design of trajectory-based operations for air traffic management and automatic speech recognition for air traffic control communications. My research work has been recognized by a few best paper awards at international conferences, and further my PhD dissertation has been awarded a couple of honorable mentions (by the INFORMS Transportation and Logistics Society, and INFORMS Aviation Applications Section).
