About Sandra Chemnitz

I have a master degree in Mathematical Modelling and Computing from Technical University of Denmark. I work as an IT consultant in Netcompany, where my main tasks are programming in C#, tender writing and testing our solutions. In my master thesis I studied the dynamics of pedestrian flow. How does pedestrians act, when many are situated in narrow space. I tried to find a reasonable mathematical model that can describe the changes that can happen in a large crowd of people. The most interesting is: Why can small forces from pushing in the outer part of a crowd, lead to massive forces in the center? This can lead to terrible accidents. An example hereof is: The Duisburg love parade in 2010. It is interesting to try and predict when a system goes from one state to another: That is, when the system changes from just a very large group pushing in various directions to a system with massive forces directed at a fixed point in the crowd. In my bachelor thesis, I studied fishery patterns: In population dynamics, there's several models to discribe the behaviour of some population. Perhaps the most simple is exponential growth. Then this can be complicated a little by assuming that their is a maximum capacity. This is logistic growth. I detailed this description further by ordering the fish in size cohorts. By using this model, I tried to predict what happened to a polulation when one yielded from it. If the fishery is too massive, they cannot recruit, and thus they become extinct. On the other hand: If the fishery is too light, the fish, new fish are recruited very slow. This also gives a yield, which is not optimal. The main question, I answered was: Is their a maximum sustainable yield? My answer was: yes, and it also depends on how big the fish are, when yielded. That is: how big compared to their asymptotic size. I am a very social person and I like teaching, because I enjoy the interaction between myself and the students.
