Background

About Sandra Chong

For the past twenty-eight years, I have been serving as a professor of education at one of the California State Universities. I have also served as a facilitator for the California Educational Equity Leadership Certification Program and the Guided Pathways Academic Partnerships Grant Programs for the past several years. I have taught courses in the credential and graduate programs in the Colleges of Education, developed and directed innovative teacher preparation programs at both the state and the national levels, chaired national research conferences, and served on the university's WASC Steering Committee. I have also created and launched a) K-18 teacher induction and professional development programs for the Carnegie’s Teachers New Era (TNE), b) K-12 arts education for the Valley Performing Arts Center (aka. Soraya Performing Arts Center), and the c) virtual master teacher training website for three different credentialing departments—elementary, secondary, and special education-in the College of Education. Prior to my professional experiences in the higher education, I have taught and coordinated bilingual and ESL programs (Title VII) in public schools and developed human relations/multicultural curriculum for the culturally and linguistically diverse students and teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District. I have also served as the Special Services Coordinator, under the Senior Vice-President of Development at the University of Southern California, overseeing and trouble-shooting university development efforts, specifically pertaining to ensuring student success. I have also served as a choir director, cantor, and a private vocal and piano instructor. I possess unique set of skills and expertise in the performing arts and teacher education, and years of successful leadership experiences in equitable curriculum design, K-18 teacher professional development, and faculty governance at both the campus and the statewide levels. I also possess several higher education leadership certifications from various organizations.
