About Sandra Dakers

My name is Sandra Dakers and I am a survivor of rape and molestation. More importantly, I am a Wife, Step-mother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, College Graduate and an Executive Director of a non-profit. I am proof that there is A Life After Rape and Molestation. As a survivor, I know how hard it can be to find a purpose in life or even a reason to keep living after being raped or molested. I felt so alone, the darkness I encountered and paranoia I felt is no way for anyone to live. I could not bear to imagine someone else feeling as I once did and I was not going to let another survivor suffer feeling like they are all alone. So I founded the non-profit A Life After Rape/Molestation or ALARM. ALARM helps survivors of sexual assault, rape and molestation get back to having a life after an attack. Not every survivor suffers the same way but we all suffer in some way and the support provided through our organization can change a person's life and even their world. By providing financial assistance to survivors for counseling we are returning to survivors the power to control their own lives. By paying for self defense classes we are giving survivors back the sense of security that was stolen from them. And by assisting them to locate and pay for self-esteem building classes we are restoring the self-worth that was lost when they were violated.
