Background
About Sandra Mutilva
Dr. Sandra Mutilva is a dynamic healthcare leader, scholar-practitioner, educator, entrepreneur, consultant, expert witness, and researcher with a distinguished career spanning clinical practice, academia, research, policy development, and innovation. A former midwife and healthcare executive, she is deeply committed to advancing women's leadership, equity in healthcare, and the responsible integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in health systems. Originally from Argentina, Sandra emigrated to Canada in 2004 and has been a relentless advocate for women’s health and executive leadership. She has practiced midwifery and reproductive health since 1994, working in Argentina on global humanitarian projects and in Ottawa until 2018. She served as Chief of Midwifery Services at The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) from 2010 to 2016 and co-founded Ottawa South Midwives (OSM). Sandra’s expertise extends beyond clinical care to strategic leadership, digital health, and emerging technologies in healthcare. As an educator, she teaches and mentors future clinicians and healthcare leaders, equipping them with the skills to navigate innovation and policy in evolving health systems. She holds an Executive MBA from the University of Ottawa, a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Adler University, and multiple certifications in AI, machine learning, risk management, and medical-legal claims. Her research explores the intersection of technology and leadership, focusing on AI applications in women’s health, FemTech innovations, digital health equity, and personalized health technologies. A Certified Health Executive (CHE) with the Canadian College of Health Leaders, Sandra is also an active mentor for women in STEM and a trusted advisor on leadership development, healthcare policy, and entrepreneurship in complex environments. Beyond her professional pursuits, Sandra enjoys martial arts, circuit training, yoga, and running. She is also an amateur astronomer and sommelier.
