About Sandra Nelson

With extensive experience in stream, river, lake, and wetland ecosystems in British Columbia and northern Canada, Sandra helps her clients protect fish and fish habitat. She takes a big picture approach to navigate her projects efficiently from baseline through assessment, permitting, and monitoring phases. Sandra works collaboratively, using empathy and technical knowledge to understand clients' and regulators' needs. Sandra teams with stream restoration engineers and hydrologists to identify factors limiting fish production at an ecosystem level and develop habitat enhancement or creation designs. Sandra led a team of Stantec's senior fisheries biologists and GIS specialists to develop a digital data collection tool flexible enough to apply to most aquatic science projects, regardless of jurisdiction or study requirements. The tool was released across Canada in 2019 and development is ongoing. Sandra currently leads the Aquatics team of freshwater and marine ecologists for Stantec's BC/Yukon practice.
