About Sandra Spencer

It’s near impossible to pull off a great idea without a team with sufficient skills, know-how, funding and access to required facilities to see the idea brought to fruition – a rewarding position to be in. At the University of Bristol, I have the pleasure to be part of this fruitful journey. My role is to facilitate interaction between business and our researcher community under the broad church of communication networks and security for collaborative research development. World-leading academic expertise in communication networks and security, at the University, include 5G/6G, quantum communication, trustworthy systems, cybersecurity and cryptography. Businesses can benefit from the this expertise and our range of test-bed facilities. I work closely with academics and external partners to provide research grant development support for all scales of projects to solve intractable research challenges and to remain at the forefront of science. I am intellectually agile and so offer different scales of support (small projects to programme sized grants) and across disciplines. My UoB grant development track-record (>£18m) includes a breadth of disciplines and funding schemes at all career stages. My writing and editing expertise (alongside UoB academics), knowledge of funding opportunities and government research and innovation strategies equips me to progress research and innovation project proposals to successful outcomes. I have built up bi-directional working relationships with many funding body portfolio/programme managers and have a strong and successful track record in UKRI funding. As a member of various research networks and conduit to interdisciplinary research institutes, I act as an effective knowledge transfer “bridge” for connecting opportunities including people. If I can’t be of service, I may know others that could meet your needs; creating and fostering partnerships, whilst giving back, is key to good business practice.
