About Sandra van Vlymen

With over twenty years of experience in education, I am passionate about supporting students with diverse learning needs and empowering them to reach their full potential. As the Student Support Coordinator at Community School of Naples, a rigorous, college preparatory, K-12 independent school, I oversee the identification, evaluation, and accommodation of students with learning differences, medical conditions, and neurodivergent needs. I also coordinate testing with accommodations for College Board, AP, ACT, and school exams, and write learning plans for students who require them. I am committed to upholding and revising the school's policies and procedures to ensure compliance and best practices. I value collaboration, innovation, and excellence, and I strive to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students and staff. In my previous role as the Director of Student Services at Mason Classical Academy, a public, charter school that follows the classical school model, I had similar responsibilities as well as leading and mentoring a team of remediation specialists. I administered programs for both special education and gifted and talented students, conducted annual IEP meetings, and liaised with parents, teachers, and external agencies. I also have a background as a classroom teacher for grades K-12, and I hold certifications in gifted and talented education, coaching, and creative problem solving. I enjoy applying my skills and knowledge to help students overcome challenges, enhance their strengths, and achieve their academic and personal goals.
