About Sandy Clark

Current PhD Scholar at the University of Hull (The Siren: Towards Accessibility in the Composition of a Multimedia Episodic Opera). Experienced conductor, composer, orchestrator and transcriber. Recent compositions include Sang Liang and Shao Yu Flute Concerto (2019; for Lin Lin), The Siren (2018; multimedia episodic opera), and Anthem (2017; for the Berkeley Ensemble). Several of my compositions have been performed throughout Europe and in Hong Kong. I have written music for a number of soloists including flautist Lin Lin, pianist Matthieu Esnult, violist Emily Hoyle, artist Charlotte Callis, the Piatti Quartet, the Berkeley Ensemble and the Portumnus Ensemble. I have conducted a wide range of ensembles from full orchestra to opera, musical theatre, brass band, wind band, choirs, and many more. I am currently the Musical Director of Hessle Sinfonia. I have won several awards including the Musical Cultures Scholarship at the University of Hull, the Piatti Prize, Musical Cultures Conference Compositions Competition, and the UK Harp Association Bursary 2019.
