About Sandy Schmitz

Dr. Sandy Schmitz has provided and administered special education programs and services for students with disabilities at the local district level, regional, state, and national levels. As Director of Special Education for a regional entity providing support and related services to 33 school districts, she has provided oversight and supervision for special education instructional and related service providers. Dr. Schmitz has extensive experience in designing and evaluating state special education general supervision systems including the development of special education policies and procedures. She has been responsible for leading major initiatives at the national, state and local level with supporting professional development and product development. While employed at national and regional technical assistance centers, Dr. Schmitz has worked with state, district and building level teams in conducting data analysis to improve the performance of students and agencies in several different performance areas. This work includes data analysis to identify root causes to poor performance and to identify the best evidence based practice to address the root causes. Dr. Schmitz has presented and provided professional development opportunities at numerous national and state level conferences and meetings.
