About Sandy Zetlan

Neuroscientist and educator with 30 of experience developing and teaching in-person and on-line materials at a Hispanic Serving Institution. My courses engage students in learning how to understand, retain, and enjoy foundational biology content for their health career path. Our students are generally unprepared, with limited study skills sufficient for 200 level classes. For this reason, our lecture and lab assignments build in study skills into their structure. Students master and apply those skills in assignments. My in-person and online BIO 201 include hands-on activities such as digital processing of histology images, building muscles with clay strings onto plastic skeletons, and storytelling activities to engage with complex processes such as action potentials. Students make videos of themselves demonstrating course topics, and student/teacher communication is built in via WEBEX meetings.
