Prof Saneshan Govender has been elected to the level of fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). In addition he has over fifty international journal publications, and has authored three books related to power generation. He also received the prestigious conference fellowship to Massachussetts Institute of Technology (MIT) USA (awarded to 109 scientists/engineers worldwide) in 2001. Prof Govender has 27 years professional experience in: 1. Thermoflow analysis and CFD, 2. Gas turbine O&M, and incident RCA. Gas turbine mean line design, 4. Solar CSP/solar PV plant concept design and finanicial analysis, 5. Wind plant concept design and financial modelling. Analysis of raw wind data for site classification. OCGT and CCGT concept/basic design and financial analysis, 7. Green hydrogen technology, concept design and financial analysis. Sizing of solar/wind plant to match input power requirements. High temperature reactor heat balance, and helium turbine mean line design (including/excluding salt heat sink loops). Key Projects/specialisation to date: 1)Open cycle gas turbine plant in Western Cape. Appointed as engineering integration manager and led a cross functional enginneering team to stage of design freeze on detailed design. 2) Gas turbine incident RCA, strategic direction for gas turbine O&M, concept and basic design incl. techno-economic assessment. 3) Solar csp 1 verification and validation. 4)Sere, Aberdeen, Kleinsee, Hendrina and Komati wind resource analysis 5)Repowering and repurposing site technology screening assessment and gas turbine option concept design and technology strategy report preparation. 6) Preparation of SMR nuclear reactors, concept design for helium turbine. 7) Part of team that developed power plant engineering institute for technical capacity building 8)Part of technical team formed to resolve Medupi and Ingula defects. Detailed verification of Ingula defect prepared, and plant now released to operate at full capacity. 9) Ad hoc technical analyses in Thermoflow as they emanate from executive management. 10) Currently developing large scale gas rollout to address EAF gap in coal fleet. This work involves a full technical assessment of brownfield and greenfield sites.
