About Sanjit Dhar

My research focuses on the understanding of the basic mechanism of carcinogenesis and neurodegenerative disorder. Briefly, to understand the disease mechanism, my research study utilizes mitochondrial network centering an essential enzyme called Manganese Superoxide Dismutase (MnSOD). My study also focuses on the understanding of how the nuclear encoded but mitochondrially localized MnSOD gene is regulated during cancer initiation, cancer progression and cancer metastasis (JBC 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012) and during neurodegeneration (Antioxidant Redox Signaling 2014) using genomic, epigenomic, and metabolomics approach (Free Radic Biol Med. Further, I have extensive experiences in studying heme and drug metabolizing enzymes their expression and regulation upon exposure with environmental toxicants, and carcinogens. My ongoing research projects are CMA-mediated autophagy and post-translational modification of MnSOD gene and their implication in disease and disease prevention (in progress).
