About Santanu Dutt

The urge to innovate has been the driver of my professional journey for over 3 decades. Innovation to me all is all about taking two things that already exist and putting them together in a new way. As the CTO of Hamilton Research & Technology Private Limited, it has been a privilege to be part of some transformative products that have propelled the company into becoming the preferred retrofit solution-provider for Aluminium Smelters. In my current role, I focus on designing and developing new products while also establishing processes and systems to enhance organizational capabilities. This involves encouraging collaboration with cross-functional teams, integrating technologies, and continuously improving our methodologies to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. My career journey, from my early days at ISRO, to my contributions to the Telecom industry and there on to building Plasma Displays followed by building advanced on-board displays for Indian Fighter aircraft has been a diverse experience. Over the past 35 years, I've held various roles that have shaped my journey as a technologist. My earlier experiences at Hamilton Research & Technology and Webel Electronic Communication Systems exposed me in the world of telecommunication services, where I played a hands-on role in enhancing connectivity and communication through innovative solutions. Additionally, my time at the Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad, allowed me to contribute to the advancement of satellite communication technology. With a strong foundation in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kanpur, I thrive on challenges and my expertise lies in the ability to craft and execute strategic visions that deliver tangible results. Outside of work, I find enjoyment in reading, from John Grisham's courtroom dramas to historical fiction from Wilbur Smith, Ken Follet to books based on technology by John Gribbin, Richard Dawkins, Stephen Hawking and Simon Singh. I also consume a lot of nonfiction - especially on world history, geopolitics and defence. Long drives are a source of fulfilment for me, and I'm an avid sports fan, following cricket, football, tennis, badminton and the track and field events at the Olympics.
