About Sara Dangelo

I SWAM MY WAY INTO COLLEGE. As an 18-year competitive swimmer; it was early on that I realized while an athlete at my core; it shadowed my commitment to student volunteerism. So I focused my personal best on community service and engaged my peers to join me.My choices helped unlock incredible opportunities:• Learning from immersive, study abroad and community service trips• Participating in 4 overseas trips• Serving people living in poverty over the course of 4 domestic trips But I wanted more out of the trips so I stepped up to manage logistics, fundraising, and made them happen. My hands-on work, volunteerism, and outreach efforts strengthened my academics and perspective as a student. I discovered I wanted to pursue a career in student athlete advising and development.STUDENT ATHLETE to STUDENT ADVISORAs a student athlete, I discovered how all-consuming NCAA level sports could be. It blinds students to the breadth and depth of college life off the field (or out of the pool). Athletes are pulled in many directions to achieve academic goals while balancing rigorous training and schedules. But many are drawn to leadership and community service to create a well-rounded college career. I seized each opportunity: from detailed planning of an overseas service trip to assisting at NFL Super Bowl events. My goal was to help hone student's interests and transfer their skills to student leadership and successful careers. The past six years provided me with: Varied internships, volunteerism, athletic commitmentand I gained experience in: Immersion in strategic planning, project management, budgeting, fundraising, and constituent communicationsThe projects I organized at the Dunbar School also contributed to Sacred Heart’s recognition for community service by the NCAA. I am now working as a Manager under NFL Officiating and remain open to opportunities to support students as an advisor and mentor so they can realize THEIR full potential.
