Background
About Sara Davis
I am a full time Computer Science and Engineering Lecturer and CSE Ph.D. student at the University of Nevada Reno. My research is focused on using machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing to detect and mitigate bias. I have worked on the Cybersecurity Security Initiative for Nevada Teachers, an NSF funded program in which I mentored and performed publishable research with three teachers in the area of biometric facial recognition. I have been a TA for CS135 (Computer Science I). In the spring of 2020, I was a student lecturer for the course. Currently, I split my time between working full-time for the CSE department as a Lecturer. I hold a B.A. in Neuroscience from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA (2013). I earned a Masters of Secondary Science Education from the University of Nevada, Reno (2016). As a license renewal requirement, I began taking CS courses. I liked them so much that I continued taking them until I was able to enroll at the university as a masters student. Eventually, I decided to continue into the Ph.D. program. I now hold a MSc in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno (2020) that I obtained on my way to earning my Ph.D. I was a chemistry and geological sciences teacher for Carson City School District for 3 years. As a former teacher, I am familiar with professional environments and communicating clearly and effectively. I believe that my time teaching has also uniquely prepared me for other office tasks, such as clear documentation and team performance. I am proficient at programming in Python and C/C++/C#. I am familiar with TensorFlow, OpenCV, NLTK, spaCy, Scikit-learn, matplotlib, and Jupyter. I am also familiar with the use of Latex.
