About Sara Eileen Baxter

I am an experienced information professional with extensive experience as an archivist and project manager at the Tennessee State Library and Archives. Over the past 11 years, my work has included creating and managing metadata records for various historical documents, overseeing the archives grant and outreach program, and providing comprehensive resources and training for historical records managers across the state. Currently, I am working with a team to create and manage a new digital platform for community collections across Tennessee. My work combines both strategic management and a deep understanding of my audience's needs, with a particular focus on advancing digital initiatives and communications within the field. With a background in metadata creation, project management, and archives management, I am also skilled in digital initiatives and preservation. My experience also extends to editing, technical writing, and developing online content that enhances the accessibility and visibility of archival collections. I am passionate about finding the intersection of my audiences needs and experience with modern digital communication strategies, and I am continually learning and working to grow my career in this direction. I hold a B.S. in Journalism and Electronic Media, as well as a Master of Science in Information Science, both from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I will also hold an additional Master of Science in Strategic and Digital Communications in Spring 2025 from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Communication is at the heart of my daily responsibilities. I collaborate closely with all departments within the library, ensuring seamless communication and alignment of projects. I actively seek opportunities to lead digital transformation projects, with a focus on expanding the library’s digital footprint and improving access to archival materials. As I continue to develop my skills in digital communications, I am eager to take on new challenges in strategic digital outreach, web reporting, and digital project management, all while furthering my growth in the evolving field of information science.
