About Sara Farmer

This is my 17th year in public education and I am the Director of Kindergarten Readiness with Oakland Unified School District's Early Learning Department. I am a firm believer in public education and enjoy continued learning in improving my practice as a public education systems leader. I believe that "literacy is equity" and my leadership stance is heavy on high academic expectations and relationship development. My strengths include student data analysis, standards based curriculum development, professional learning community facilitation, professional development creation and facilitation, empathic problem solving, and school system development. Additionally, I am committed to providing an equitable learning environment for all students and school community stakeholders. My previous experiences in school leadership include instructional coaching and principalship. My teaching experience is unique because I have taught early childhood education, kindergarten, 4th, 5th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. The opportunity to work with students at different ages has truly been a gift as it strengthens my differentiation skills and has made me a better teacher, coach, systems-oriented leader, and person. My hobbies include triathlon, soccer, snow skiing, traveling around California, reading thrillers, spending time near or on water, trying to get my dog to cuddle with me, and laughing with my family and friends.
