About Sara Fernandes

I have a passion towards advocacy and inclusion in early childhood settings especially in regards to children who have special needs. Through my masters degree from Ryerson University I obtained the knowledge about discrimination within inclusion practices and ways to combat exclusion in the school. Throughout field placements and work experiences I had the opportunity to work with many children in a variety of settings (school, camp and child care) which has prepared me to see the need for advocacy in the early childhood field. I love learning and travelling, I plan to travel the world and gain new exposure to the different ideologies, cultures and policies on children, my hope would be to go into these places as a blank slate and gain new knowledge and perspective which can be translated into my practice. My professional research goal would be to study the effects of bullying on a child with a diverse need, on their socio emotional development; this interested came based upon experiences in my personal and professional life and new articles. I believe educating children can change their perspective and the perspective of the current and future generations.
