About Sara Henschell

Currently I teach College Prep, Advanced Placement Literature and Language, and English 1. I am dual-certified in the state of Maryland to teach Secondary English and Special Education. The current theory focus I am studying is individualized education and the tech tools that can help effectively facilitate it. Currently, I spend my summers as the Advanced Placement Literature and Composition teacher for Baltimore City Schools' Summer Academy. Before this opportunity, I spent my summers as the Lead English Teacher for City School's Summer School program. I was responsible for the management of approximately 40 teachers, curricular and assessment design, book choices and resource management. I have also written curriculum for city-wide programs and intervention programs at the school level. I have delivered and written professional development for City Schools, including but not limited to:"The Works: English 2 Section", Turnaround School Series:"Teach Like a Champion." I was a City Schools Literacy by design Pioneer Teacher, attending the 2009 LDC conference, was selected to attend the consulting meeting about RISE testing in a partnership between city school, Harvard University and SERP. I was Northwestern High School's Teacher of the Year and named as an Outstanding teacher by Baltimore City Schools in 2013. I won the Augusta Fells Savage Pride Award for school community development in 2014. I have been named teacher of the year for Augusta Fells Savage for 2015-16.
