I specialize in collaborating with others to encourage excellence in challenging individuals with severe, behavioral challenges and/or mental illness. Research into human behavior indicates-and I strongly believe-that, when individuals are encouraged to utilize their talents to improve their weaknesses, productivity will increase. As a specialist in diagnostic adolescent behavior in USD 512, my methods of data collection are considered the best-practice standard for teachers throughout my district. Examples of my methodology have been shared by district trainers with other teachers as models of effective and accurate collection. I am versed in implementing Universal Design for Learning to accommodate the needs (and to enrich the concept understanding) of my adult staff team as well as my students with intellectual and behavioral challenges. I have served on several, district-level cadres (leadership planning committees) in USD 500, where I served to advocate for excellence in teaching strategies and realism in goal-setting for secondary students and teachers throughout the district. In my current capacity in USD 512, I build bridges between students with serious behavioral challenges, the school community, and the larger world in order to help them to achieve their personal goals for life after high school.
