About Sara Zanotta

I am a post-doc research fellow in the ERC CoG REDMIX "Unpacking Mixedness for an Inclusive History of the Red Sea, at the University of Turin, where I study the Iranian and Persian-speaking presence in the Red Sea between the 19th and the 20th centuries, also taking advantage of Digital Humanities. I hold a PhD n Asian History from the University of Pavia, with a thesis entitled "Long-Distance Constitutionalists: Trans-Imperial Connections and Cross-Border Strategies of the Iranian Constitutional Movement (1850-1910s)". My research interests are the global history of Iran and Iranians between the 19th and the 20th century, especially focusing on the circulation, mobility and migration from Iran to other Asian, African, and European countries and vice versa. I am also a research fellow at theSquare, the Editor for Persian, Turkic and Biblical Studies of The Digital Orientalist, the deputy chief of the editorial staff of the academic journal Nuovi Autoritarismi e Democrazie: Diritto, Istituzioni, Società, and I contribute to the activities of the editorial staff of the Observatory on New Democracies and Authoritarianisms (Osservatorio NAD).
