Background

About Sarah A. Weaver

As a public school speech-language pathologist, I have chosen to dedicate my career to children and the development of their strengths while closing the gaps within their challenges. The areas of literacy, language based learning disabilities, english as a second language, metacognition, medically related genetic disorders and differential diagnosis/eligibility determination have my heightened interest. In addition to the assessment and treatment of children, I am also vested in the parent-child-therapist relationship where I welcome the opportunity to foster relationships with parents. Lakeview Elementary School is one of the largest elementary schools in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where we are home to over 700 children who learn in classrooms spanning from Early On, Early Childhood Special Education and Jr. Kindergarten through grade 4. We have on average 40 teachers and close to 45 support personnel. We are continually fostering relationships with parents through school, athletics and community involvement. The opportunity to supervise and teach graduate students also ranks high in my professional endeavors. I thoroughly enjoy mentoring college level students as they progress through our profession. Research and professional development are ongoing to ensure knowledge, insight and mindfulness are part of my professional practice. Aside from the roles and responsibilities that come with public school employment, I seek out opportunities to work with children and women through running, yoga and volunteering.
