Background

About Sarah B.

My original career goal was to be a SFX makeup artist for films. When my senior year of high school came around, my mom sat me down and asked what my plans were when I graduated. I had to make a name for myself before I could make enough money to live comfortably in the film industry, so I didn't truly know what to do. She convinced me to get a marketing degree as a way to give myself four extra years to grow my skills and make a name for myself. I chose to go to Louisiana State University primarily because the 13th Gate Haunted House was right around the corner. I figured I could start working there during the Halloween season as a way to build my portfolio and potentially network. It worked! I got my first true film job at 18 years old. I continued doing makeup for local indie films and commercials, but during my junior year of college, I felt my passion fading. I started to realize that the thing I was enjoying most about my current path in life was how I was marketing myself. I was using social media to show my work and build a portfolio that I then shared with anybody and everybody who would view it. I used Facebook groups for local photographers and people in the film industry to get my name and work out there. When I started learning more about marketing, I realized I was in my right path in college the entire time. Makeup had just been a stepping stone for me to get here. I started taking less and less jobs, handing them off to other people in the industry. I decided to entirely focus on my major and start working focusing on some internships. Early on, I realized that most internships weren't paid for marketing. Large corporations who had the money to pay us chose not to, so I solely worked with startups and small, local businesses. This led me into my current position, where my passion for supporting local sprouted. I now work in digital marketing (primarily social media) where I am able to help local businesses continue to grow in Baton Rouge!
