Background
About Sarah Bell
I am the City of Melbourne Chair in Urban Resilience and Innovation at the University of Melbourne, in the Melbourne Centre for Cities. I am the Director of The Retrofit Lab. An experienced leader of interdisciplinary research, my current research program aims to support the retrofitting of cities to improve resilience to climate change, biodiversity and public health emergencies. I have expertise in community co-design of infrastructure, urban water systems, and urban resilience and sustainability. I have delivered research and consultancy projects on water efficiency, water reuse, green infrastructure and the water-energy-food nexus. I have extensive experience working in partnership with local government, utility companies, housing providers, engineering and design consultancies, NGOs and grass-roots community groups. My latest co-authored book 'Co-designing Infrastructures' was published open access by UCL Press in 2023.
