About Sarah Burtner
My work in the field of education began in 1997. I have been fortunate to fill a wide variety of shoes as a teacher: English instructor in Japan, volunteer high school Japanese teacher, Japanese teaching fellow at the University of Oregon, and elementary English language tutor. In 2005 I received an M.A. in Second Language Teaching, with an emphasis on Japanese and English pedagogy and learning styles, and those studies have continued to fuel my work. In 2019 I made a career move from public schools to the nonprofit world, where education is still part of my job, though I now promote affordable, sustainable housing and the re-use of materials otherwise destined for the landfill. My passions outside the field of teaching include recycling, nutrition and exercise, travel, and art and design of all kinds. I am also a full-time mother of two boys and a part-time Zumba instructor.
