About Sarah Collier

I am passionate about all areas of medical science, particularly that of oncology. I strongly believe that the foundations for understanding disease and improving its diagnosis and treatment relies on an extensive understanding of cellular and molecular pathways. I have a PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology. My research explored the role of abberrantly expressed Hu Proteins in Neuroblastoma, Glioblastoma and Small cell lung cancer. As an enthusiastic Cancer Biologist, I also have interest in the therapeutic value of natural compounds in Leukaemias and the rise of multi drug resistance in multiple cancers. In 2018, I was honoured to receive a 'Coventry University Excellence Award' for Research-Inspired Teaching. This was awarded for my role in leading multiple research projects in all areas of Medical Biology to A-level students for the Nuffield Foundation. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and have taught on Biomedical Science Undergraduate and Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Masters courses at Coventry University. I remain as a guest lecturer here. In my latest career development, I work for the West Midlands Regional Genetics Laboratory where we run specialised testing for rare diseases and cancers. I am technical programme manager for the NGS hub. I am also a STEM ambassador. I am a school governor at a primary school federation and act as vice chair for the finance committee.
