About Sarah Copeland

I am a second-year Master of Planning student at the University of Otago. My studies will finish at the end of 2023, and I plan to pursue a career in GIS, urban design and policy.I am studying for a Master of Planning as I want to integrate social sciences and humanities into my science background. Within the design aspect of urban planning, I have found my niche within GIS over the past two years of my Master's. In my first year, I designed floating and seal-level resilient schools, completed a thesis on the residential needs within Central Otago and undertook professional consulting and resource management design. This year I am currently completing a design-based thesis that is specifically focused on residential design and biodiversity using Space Syntax methods. This project will also contribute to a programme run by People, Cities and Nature.I take my work to the 'next level' when it comes to my enthusiasm, hardworking nature and ability to 'think outside the box'. I maintain this through my ambitions and passion to create long-term social and environmental change for a successful local and global future. Prioritising Tikanga Māori in all aspects of design and policy holds great importance to me. I am looking to work in a motivated, innovative and neurodivergent-friendly environment.
