About Sarah Faust
Sarah Faust was born in Denver, Colorado. She received her BFA with distinction from the University of Kansas in Visual Communication and holds an MFA in Photography from Columbia College Chicago, where she is Associate Professor of Instruction in Graphic Design. Faust has worked as a Graphic Designer and Creative Director in a variety of environments in Chicago design firms, including Liska and Associates, Design Kitchen, and Good Studio, a publications firm in Mexico, and in-house design offices, Interface, Inc. and Creative Services of Columbia College Chicago. Some of Faust’s design projects include the multi-faceted re-branding of Columbia College Chicago, including promotional materials for the recruitment of students, artists’ books, degrees, brand standards, branded environment, and publications. Faust has won numerous awards for her design work from The Society of Typographic Arts, Print, and The Columbia Scholastic Press Association. Faust’s students won a merit award for How’s International Design Competition in 2017. At Columbia College Chicago, Faust teaches all levels of graphic design courses with a focus in experiential learning through the capstone course, Senior Practicum: Client/Designer Studio, where student design teams collaborate with client partners on real-world projects. In addition, Faust currently serves as the faculty advisor for AIGA Columbia. Faust’s photographic work is in the permanent collections at the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, Illinois, the Wichita Art Museum, and the Ulrich Museum of Art at Wichita State University. Notable exhibitions include solo shows at the Chicago Cultural Center in 2003 and at the International Museum of Surgical Science in 2004, Chicago, and Trish Higgins Fine Art in Wichita Kansas. Group shows include the 2006 and 2014 Evanston Biennial, Evanston Art Center, Evanston, and exhibitions at Stephen Daiter Gallery, 2004, Catherine Edelman Gallery, 2005, Anne Loucks Gallery, 2009, and David Weinberg Gallery, 2012, and Latitude, 2016, both part of Filter Photo Festival. Her work was included in Antifreeze, a faculty/staff exhibition at ShopColumbia in 2020. She received Illinois Arts Council Fellowships in 2005 and 2009. Her photography has been published in books and online in The Photo Review, The Literary Review, Humble Arts Foundation, and Flak Photo. Portfolios of her work were published in C International Photo, 2009 and in Hair Trigger 34, in 2012.
