About Sarah Fleener

I started my career in Social Work as a Bachelors of Social Work student at the University of Kansas, graduating in 2003 and later completing my Masters of Social Work in 2008, also at the University of Kansas. Over the years I have enjoyed many rich and rewarding experiences with the people of our community. I've also born witness to many tales of suffering and tragedy and seen the power of healing and human resilience. My greatest joy comes in those moments of connection with others, seeing the light bulb turn on or the flame of hope grow a bit brighter. I'm proud to have launched my private practice, Wise Mind Counseling KC, LLC, in the spring of 2021, offering individual counseling for adults and adolescents utilizing a Strengths-Based Perspective and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy framework. My philosophy of therapy or counseling is that it is of a transactional nature, that is to say, there is an exchange between client and therapist and utilizing that relationship can lead to authentic connection and rich growth. I believe in the inherent value and worth of the individual and approach each situation without judgement, honoring the wisdom of the individual who is asking for help. My upbringing taught me to approach others with compassion and empathy and to work to lift others up to their full potential using their own strengths and the strengths of our community for the greater good of the individual and our society.
