Background
About Sarah Heffner
Hi hi hi! I'm Sarah and I am so glad you found me here. Here is a little professional talk about me. My resume may befuddle you: educator, poet, bartender, healer. But the way I qualify my diversity in skill is by knowing I'm capable of anything. I'm your wild card. I'm going to deliver. In 2008, during the recession, even though I was an entry level receptionist, because of my agility to learn and quality of performance in all office operations, I was indispensable. I quit only to focus on pursuing my MFA from NYU. The true pursuit for me now—and maybe I shouldn't admit this—but where is my team that makes me feel like I'm being the most myself, while also pushing me to produce excellent work that I'm proud to write and that I believe benefits and heals the world? If that sounds familiar, then let's chat! Still not convinced, then here is a little bit more about what I can offer as a team member of your company. My craft elicits emotion through image and language. Feeling motivates people to take action—this is how I became star of the month at Vans. Selling the most socks came from my ability to translate an image or tell a story that made people feel understood, while also weaving in logic to seal the deal. I validate people’s experiences. As a problem solver and creative person, empathy and compassion are my main strategies. Naming what is wrong economizes solutions. As a 24-hr play theater co-founder, the problem solved was limited access to act, write, and direct. My solution: make more opportunity without the politics. I gave the people what they wanted without sacrificing integrity. Inspired and guided by my values the foundation of this organization still runs today! People feel comfortable telling me their problems. My decade of experience in hospitality is where I cultivated user experience—the soul's experience, not their mouse clicking journey. Where I perfected centering the guest’s needs—and if not intuitively just knowing, I learned how to ask the right questions to elicit information that allowed me to curate their personal experience. This created trust and these first time guests often became regulars. Poetry, hospitality, creativity, and education are the pillars of my career history. As I pivot career paths, I seek opportunities and roles that could be a landing space. Where my diverse set of skills and expertise could strengthen and expand solutions in a multitude of ways.
