About Sarah Hyde

Although I graduated with an Undergraduate Degree in Humanities, I work in a seed lab full time. My experience as a lab technician with corn, while at Syngenta, covered all stages of the growth process in greenhouses and labs, from working with corn embryos, gathering tissue samples from germinated leaves, pollinating mature stalks, and harvesting the results. Throughout my 3 years of employment there, I have learned how to work as a team, communicate effectively with coworkers and managers, and train new employees in mandatory tasks. I am trained in handling small quantities of chemicals and the proper use of personal protective equipment and general lab safety. My experience shifted when I moved to ADM and turned my attention to beans. Over the last two years the focus has been evaluating bean seedlings, seed sample purity, and performing electroconductivity tests. I've also conducted cold tests when the bosses called for it. Our lab is only a small piece of the pie at ADM, but it provides crucial information for the company in regards to local crop quality, so accuracy and consistency is required. Furthermore, at ADM I am beginning my studies as a Registered Seed Technologist, which includes being able to identify seeds and learning how to evaluate other vegetables. I am interested in continuing this endeavor.
