About Sarah King

Greetings!My name is Sarah King and I am a passionate women's mental and physical health advocate, a visually-impaired nurse, a wife and mother to 3 beautiful little ones, and a current Instructor of Nursing at Ivy Tech Community College-Fort Wayne. I have been with Ivy Tech School of Nursing since 2019. I have been teaching didactic and clinical courses for their ASN program since 2021. My content focus, as my initial introduction might suggest, is in obstetric and pediatric nursing. Along with this, I have also taught a medical-surgical 2, medical-surgical 3, and mental health clinical in my time as an educator. To go along with my teaching, I have over 8 years of bedside nursing in Family Birthplaces and have had practical experience in home health nursing, critical care nursing, and community outreach/educational nursing. While I have loved teaching at Ivy Tech, I am currently hoping to find a college or university that also has a focus on faculty scholarship and research. My goal is to begin my doctoral degree, but this is neither needed nor supported at Ivy Tech. I strongly believe that obtaining a doctoral degree should be strongly encouraged and supported in nursing educators. Without doctorate prepared nurses, there would be little nursing-centered research. The nursing shortage that is already currently increasing, would only worsen. I'm hoping to further my own educational goals, while also being poised to help with the educator gap that is only worsening in the nursing field.
