Background

About Sarah Kirkpatrick

I am currently a government-funded master’s student in the Forensic Psychology program at Ontario Tech University studying public perceptions of consent and sexual assault in the context of heterosexual and homosexual sexual encounters. I am also actively involved in wrongful convictions research, examining the effects of crime type and reason for conviction on public perceptions of exonerees. While completing my graduate studies, I continue to work as a family support worker, supporting youth in care and their families, in addition to my work as a youth worker/counsellor where I provide brief counselling services and programming to intervene in and prevent criminal behaviours. During the academic year, I also work as a teaching assistant, assisting students with the comprehension and application of course material as well as assessing student performance. Aside from my various occupations, I also spend time volunteering in my campus community as Ontario Tech’s CPA Campus Representative and the President and Co-Founder of the Ontario Tech Psychology Association.
