About Sarah Kolat

I speak artist. As a high-level arts and education administrator, I've spent a career decoding, supporting, and enacting the vision of performing arts leaders in academia and the non-profit sector. I have keen insight into how creative minds operate and work alongside creators to translate ideas into reality. I create systems to help creative types thrive and organize their thoughts and administrative duties. With a decade experience in academia, I've managed self-sustaining programs, developed curriculum, courses, and degree programs, while simultaneously teaching, performing, and completing both my Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in musicology. I'm an experienced and ethical researcher and writer, with published work in the authoritative American Popular music textbook,"American Popular Music" by Starr/Waterman 5th ed, Oxford University Press, 2017) and forthcoming publications with Eastman Music Studies (Harry Partch edited volume, 2025) and Cambridge University Press (Sondheim edited volume, 2026). Avant-garde vocalist. I am a musicologist specializing in 20th-century American music and experimental music/performance art. I am open to collaborations and opportunities to do weird things.
