Background
About Sarah Levy
I am a third year at Northeastern University pursuing a major in Health Science and a minor in Exercise Science. I am from San Diego, California but now call Boston home. I am on the E-Board of the Health Disparities Student Collaborative on campus which is a club that spreads awareness of the inequalities in healthcare. I got interested in this after I took Community and Public Health last year. I believe that the work in public health is vital for the approach we take toward improving healthcare in our country. Volunteering as a research assistant in the exercise science lab on campus, led to my interest in exercise science and I’m now taking my first Exercise Physiology class this semester. This honed my skills in biostatistics and using programs such as Stata and Microsoft Excel for data analysis. I am also very familiar with various forms of physical fitness training (VO2max, Bruce test, Wingate Protocol, body composition tests, electrocardiogram monitoring, etc.). For my future career plans I feel pulled in many different directions in healthcare. In the Health Science major, I have taken a few classes in order to study the importance of public health and legislation in our country. The exercise science lab has added to my intrigue in sports medicine and orthopedics. I enjoy learning about how the body moves and how nutrition and fitness can affect our health. However, being an EMT for the past few months has exposed me to a different side of healthcare and led to my new-found interest in emergency medicine which was a surprise to me. I found it so exciting and unpredictable. Working with patients as an EMT also allowed me to get experience with patient care. I found I enjoyed talking to patients and helping them feel comfortable which made me even more certain that healthcare is the right field for me.
