About Sarah Mayes

I am currently a Registered Nurse at Doctor’s Hospital of Augusta. I have been working part time there in the Day Surgery Department mostly in Pre-op, but I also help out in Discharge and occasionally in the Surgical Recovery Unit. I help prepare patients for surgery, monitor vitals after administering sedating drugs, and assess patients' condition post op for readiness for discharge. I graduated in August of 2012 from the University of Texas at Tyler with a Bachelor’s of Nursing Degree. I have acquired quite a few skills in my almost 10 years of Nursing experience. I worked in California in the Cardiac Step Down Unit where I went from being a fairly new nurse, to being NIHSS trained to take care of acute stroke patients, proficient in titrating various cardiac drips, and taking care of Open Heart Surgery patients once they came out of ICU. I also have experience working as an RN in the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Unit at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta, GA. The SCI Unit offered me experiences with a wide range of patients with medical/surgical and rehabilitation needs. The patient population varied from ventilator patients, patients in need of wound care, to patients in intensive rehabilitation to improve quality of life. I started my career in Cardiac Rehabilitation in Dallas, TX and spent some time in the Nuclear Medicine Department in Austin, TX running treadmill stress tests and stress echos.
