About Sarah Otoole

I am a recent graduate with a deep passion for immigration advocacy and a strong commitment to supporting immigrant communities. I’ve had the privilege of working on both the legal and humanitarian sides of immigration: welcoming newcomers to the United States at a local shelter and assisting legal practitioners in submitting immigration applications. Additionally, I’ve contributed to initiatives aimed at expanding legal pathways by facilitating noncitizens’ travel to the U.S. and building supportive programs. For over five years, I’ve worked in this field in a volunteer capacity and professionally for nearly two years since earning my bachelor's degree in International Security and Conflict Resolution from San Diego State University in May 2023. Throughout my career, I’ve developed creative solutions to serve clients with limited organizational resources, always focusing on uplifting the humanity and personal stories of noncitizens. I prioritize collaboration across teams and departments, ensuring that solutions are well-rounded, comprehensive, and consider multiple perspectives. My passion for immigration advocacy is rooted in my deep commitment to uplifting immigrant communities that are too often demonized and underserved. This commitment and admiration for immigration work is guided by the words of Warsan Shire:"No one leaves home unless home is the mouth of a shark." Everyone deserves protection and a safe place to call home. I believe not only is it our obligation to provide that protection, but it is also a privilege that communities across the United States greatly benefit from. I am actively seeking opportunities in the immigration field where I can leverage my skills and experience to continue advocating for immigrant rights.
