About Sarah Schaefer

I’m Sarah, and as you may have guessed, math is my passion. And presenting math in a way that is easily understandable, is my calling. I’ve spent over 20 years in the classroom, teaching K-12 Mathematics in public and private school settings. Interacting with varying age groups and differing socio-economic backgrounds has taught me one thing: math is easy. Teaching effectively can be hard. Schedules are sometimes even shorter than attention spans. Teachers are pulled in various directions, and kids end up moving onto the next concept before they understand the first. It’s no secret that many students roll their eyes and get frustrated with math. It’s easy for them to dismiss math and label themselves as not being a “math person.” I know there is no such thing. We are all capable of learning, understanding, and utilizing math. As our world continually becomes more number-centric, math skills are more critical than ever. That’s why I founded my company, Mathodology in 2007. I knew that I could help teachers discover a streamlined method to get students engaged and retain what they are learning. Mathodology utilizes the Singapore Methodology, which is the world’s premier method for optimal comprehension and retention. I’ve been an early adopter of the Singapore Methodology, and the results have been nothing short of transformative. Along with the think!Mathematics textbooks, I have been able to implement the Singapore Methodology in numerous schools and help design a curriculum that inspires, not frustrates. At The Bolles School, I even created the curriculum from the ground up by simplifying and focusing on delivery and developing content knowledge. I believe there is an inherent beauty in math, and more students would feel the same if they only had the right tools to understand it. Mathodology is here to work with teachers, students, and institutions who are ready to explore math in an innovative and engaging way.
