About Sarah Steer

I possess a deep commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion but not as buzzwords. I believe that the work of diversity is an ongoing practice-not an achievement-that aims to provide access to sustainable resources, programming, and opportunities to underrepresented and under-resourced identities. I also believe that institutions must develop cultural humility/competency among those who are are not underrepresented in order to provide true systemic support for diversity, equity, and inclusion. I believe that identities are intersectional and ever-changing, and that programming must be simultaneously aware of and responsive to these complexities in order to be effective. I am always engaged in cultivating a deeper understanding of identities, cultures, and communities that I serve. What makes me a valued employee and colleague: High emotional intellect and empathy with the ability to successfully interface and problem solve with individuals from culturally and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds. I am able to build strong, functional relationships across departments and enjoy serving on committees that are devoted to fostering cultural humility, equality and advocate support for underrepresented stakeholders at the institutional level. Excellent public speaking, verbal and written communications skills. Strong critical thinking and organizational skills, event planning and project management. I am skilled at developing and delivering multicultural focused curriculum, especially dense and uncomfortable subject matter, in accessible formats with humor, patience, compassion, and tact. My deep commitment to fostering diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace enable me to effectively push back and provide alternative solutions to an organization's policy.
