About Sarah Taggart

I’m a landlord/tenant attorney with 18+ years of experience advising commercial and residential landlords, large housing providers, self-managing owners, and property-managing realtors on Alabama landlord/tenant law (obligations, security deposits, prohibited lease terms, evictions), property management (short-term leasing, Airbnbs, proper documentation), and the Fair Housing Act. In 2006, I founded Sarah Taggart, P.C, a boutique and state-wide Alabama law firm focused on landlord rights and real estate disputes. I represent investors, property managers, and landlords in eviction/dispossessory actions, security deposit litigation and defense, vendor/contractor disputes and lien work, debt collection on rental delinquencies, ejectment actions, creditor side bankruptcy work, and fair housing defense matters. A frequent speaker, media spokesperson, and consultant on landlord/tenant rights and obligations, evictions, and fair housing matters, I’m also the author of the “Alabama Residential Landlord/Tenant Law Form Book,” a resource guide with 65+ Alabama-specific residential landlord/tenant forms accessible to small real estate investors or realtors engaged in property management. The form book (available for purchase on the firm’s website) includes multiple editions for landlord property owners and residential property managers. Additionally, I launched Sarah Taggart, P.C. School of Real Estate, a real estate school offering classes (accredited through the Alabama Real Estate Commission) for realtors, brokers, and licensed property managers on property management, landlord tenant law, fair housing, and general consulting. The courses are taught through a unique storytelling approach with a highly interactive and open forum, as well as Q&A. I hold a JD from Washington University School of Law, a top 20 law school, and a BA in History, magna cum laude, and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.
