About Sarah Whelan
I hold a Master of Global Affairs from the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, University of Toronto, with specializations in global development and gender studies. My interests are centred on exploring the role of women in the evolution of nations' and states' development narratives. During my master's, I participated in an exchange program at the Geneva Graduate Institute for International and Development studies in Switzerland. During my time as a Humanitarian Researcher with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in The Hague, I led a research project on how Earth observation data (e.g, satellite imagery and its deratives) can enable anticipatory action in climate-induced crises, effectively preserving development gains.Before my master's degree, I completed my undergraduate degree in Software Engineering at Western University and worked at various technology startups in Toronto with focuses on quantum computing, high-performance computing, and blockchain. I am also a proud Venture for Canada fellow.
