Background
About Sarina Faizy
As a native of Kandahar, Afghanistan, and a passionate advocate for human and women’s rights, I bring a deep understanding of Middle Eastern cultural norms and dynamics. Fluent in five languages—English, Pashto, Dari, Persian, and Urdu—I am committed to advancing women’s empowerment, human rights, and international development. I have organized numerous events focused on women’s rights, girls’ education, and community development, working closely with both local governments and international organizations. My work has included collaboration with VIP officials from various embassies in Afghanistan, further strengthening my experience in diplomacy and cross-cultural communication. I hold a Master of Law (LLM) in International Law from William & Mary Law School and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy. As a former elected Provincial Council Member of Kandahar, I demonstrated leadership and advocacy, receiving political and leadership training from prominent institutions including the United Nations, the U.S. government, the Canadian Embassy, the National Democratic Institute, USAID, and the Bush Institute. This training, combined with my hands-on experience, has allowed me to build a solid foundation in governance, elections, and human rights, positioning me as a strong advocate for social change. Recognized by key Afghan political figures and international media, I have often served as a lead speaker for the Afghan Council and have appeared regularly on national and international television. In my role as an official liaison for the Afghan government, I coordinated civic programs aimed at promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment, fostering partnerships between local communities and international NGOs. My experience extends to media relations as a former officer for the Kandahar Media Information Centre with NATO, and I also led impactful initiatives as a Project Manager at USAID’s Community Cohesion Initiative. I am dedicated to creating positive, lasting change for human, especially for women and communities in Afghanistan and around the world.
