About Satendra Singh
Dr. Singh is a Director Professor of Physiology, Co-founder of the Health Humanities Group at University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi. He is the organizational head of 'Doctors with Disabilities: Agents of Change'- a group of health professionals with disabilities for social justice in India. He is a MacLean Centre for Clinical Medical Ethics fellow and Bucksbaum International Scholar at the University of Chicago. He is also a member of the core group on disability at the National Human Rights Commission; advisor to the Delhi Disability Commissioner; past executive member of the Delhi Medical Council and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Research and Humanities in Medical Education (RHiME) journal. He is passionate about disability rights and fought discrimination to bring policy reforms forcing the Central Government to unlock faculty positions for doctors with disabilities. As a disability justice advocate, he has successfully initiated numerous policy reforms, including the integration of disability rights as disability competencies in the new medical curriculum in India. He has taken judicial activism to make medical institutions in India disabled-friendly. He is the first Indian to be awarded the Henry Viscardi Achievement Award. He was also awarded the National Award in 2021 by the Hon'ble President of India. He is a cross-movement solidarity activist who led DCPCR to direct Health Dept to ban unnecessary surgeries on intersex newborns & children in Delhi. He also contributed to trans-affirmative competencies for health professions
