About Sathi Up

Established in 1992, the Supporting Association for Thematic and Holistic Initiatives (SATHI-UP) is a leading civil society organization rooted in the belief that sustainable development stems from empowered communities and collective action. Inspired by the late Gandhian thinker Shree Paras Bhai, SATHI-UP is grounded in the principles of Gram Swaraj and guided by the values of Friendship, Dialogue, and Cooperation. The organization was formally registered in July 2004 under the Societies Registration Act 21, 1860, and is also registered under 12AA, 80G, FCRA, and CSR-1. Over three decades, SATHI-UP has journeyed through diverse thematic areas, shaping its evolution and deepening its grassroots impact. Starting with the collectivization and institutional strengthening of grassroots CSOs, we built platforms like SATHI District Forums that enhanced solidarity, learning, and collaboration. Early work focused on good governance, rights awareness, and strengthening the voluntary spirit among development actors. Gradually, we expanded into women’s empowerment, leadership development, and cadre-building, laying strong foundations for interventions in health, nutrition, education, livelihoods, and family planning. In recent years, SATHI-UP has strategically expanded to address environmental sustainability, climate change, migration resilience, and mental health by building the capacities of grassroots CSOs and designing and implementing locally relevant interventions in these critical areas.
