About Schontal Moore

I am Schontal Moore, a St. Andrew High School "old" girl, and a seasoned academic with a deep passion for Language Education, Literature, Literacy Studies, and Education Technology. At present, I serve as a Senior Lecturer in Language and Literature Education at the School of Education, UWI, Mona. I am also honored to be the new Director for the Caribbean Centre for Educational Planning (CCEP), effective August, 2023.My academic journey began with a B.A. in English (Hon.) from UWI, Mona in 1992. Over the years, I furthered my studies by earning an M.A. in English, a Dip. Ed.(with Distinction), an M.Ed. in Educational Technology and English Language Teaching from the University of Manchester, and also a Ph.D. in Language Education in 2017 from UWI, Mona. My doctoral research delved deep into the transformation of writing capabilities of graduate students from Creole-speaking backgrounds in a virtual learning environment.Throughout my career, I've proudly taken on numerous leadership roles, such as Director for M.Ed. Summer & Online Programmes and Graduate Option Coordinator for Language Education & Literacy Studies Programme at the School of Education. One of my proudest moments was being honored with the UWI’s Principal's Award twice in 2023 for my outstanding research contributions as part of the CCEP's Team for both fund generation and developmental impact.My area of expertise lies in the development and management of online/virtual and blended learning platforms. I have a strong focus on Instructional and Communication Technology (ICT) and blended learning. Furthermore, I'm passionate about teacher training and development across the Caribbean, leadership in higher educational contexts, and English Language and Literature instruction in Creole-speaking environments. My dedication to professional growth is reflected in my continuous training, highlighted by my accreditation as a Master Trainer with Blackboard Academy.As an active contributor to the academic world, I've penned numerous peer-reviewed publications, including books, short monographs, and journal articles. My writings often center on online education, Creole-influenced adult learning, and the innovative uses of ICT in academic writing and learning.In sum, my commitment to language and literacy education, especially in the Caribbean, drives me daily.
