I have been a police officer for 20 years, working 16 of those in the public school system at the middle school and high school level. In September of 2012, I was hired with The University of Texas Health Science Center System Police Department where I am involved as a Field Training Officer, Crisis/Hostage Negotiator, Background Investigator, TCOLE Instructor and Juvenile Crimes when needed. In 2015, I was assigned as the Coordinator of the Recruiting and Training Division which includes the coordination, scheduling and reporting of training for Police Department personnel (Sworn, Security, and Civilian) The recruiting division responsibilities include the handling of all incoming applications for positions within the Health Science Center Police Department (Sworn/Civilian) and insuring interview boards are scheduled and conducted according to policies set forth by ODOP (Office of the Director of Police) in Austin, Texas. I work with the universities HR department (Amazing staff) to insure all required paperwork is processed according to university policy and within guidelines set by ODOP policy. This includes the scheduling and coordination of all steps in the hiring phase to include the interview process, background investigations, psychiatric evaluations, polygraph, physicals, drug screens, physical agility testing and all state mandated documentation that is required for the positions. I maintain a cadre of instructors that provide all departmental in-service training to include TCOLE mandated courses (Use of Force, less lethal weapons (Taser/OC/Baton), Tactical Casualty Combat Care, CPR-AED, and the the coordination of local and national training agencies providing law enforcement training on the university campus.
