Background
About Scott Alamar
I am currently an Advanced Practice Nurse in inpatient Palliative Medicine at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical center. The role is strictly consultative. I work with patients and families to establish goals of care and advanced care planning in the acute setting. I also provide symptom management for serious illness whether goals are curative or comfort. Previously, I was an APN at a private practice specializing in anal dysplasia. The practice was a regional site for the Anal Cancer HSIL Outcomes Research (ANCHOR) study. I was certified by the AIDS Malignancy Consortium in High Resolution Anoscopy. My first APN position was at UChicago Medicine. Primary responsibilities included providing inpatient coverage for Pediatric Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Transplant Surgery, and Vascular Surgery. I evaluated immediate post-operative progress, escalated care if there were changes in the patient condition, and maintained the floor issues. Additionally, bedside consultation was provided for Vascular, Pediatric, and Plastic Surgery services. The role assisted with pediatric traumas in Comer Emergency Department; primary and secondary surveys, coordinating care with other consulting services, ordering diagnostics, documenting findings, and determining disposition. Other responsibilities include Emergency Department consultations for Hand, Face, and Burn as part of the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery service. My primary care clinical rotations were at UIC's Mile Square Integrated Health Center-West location. At this clinical site, I provided primary care to the underserved children and adults in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. I performed complete and focused health examinations, including school physicals, ordered appropriate diagnostics, prescribed appropriate medications and monitored progress, and provided referrals to specialty providers for further evaluation. My specialty clinical rotation at the University of Chicago in the department of Colorectal Surgery. Primary duties included pre-operative evaluation and post-operative follow-up, and post-operative wound care. Additionally, I provided significant education with regards to post-surgical management of inflammatory bowel disease. I have over 7 years of medical-surgical nursing experience at a leading research medical center. Areas of experience are in post-operative nursing care for GI surgery, plastic surgery, ENT surgery, and inflammatory bowel disease.
